Solana Beach, Mauritius – a blend of natural beauty and contemporary design

The Solana Beach is situated on the East Coast of Mauritius close to Belle Mare beach.

On arrival at this 4* All Inclusive hotel I felt it had a bit of a Caribbean feel going on, with its eye catching patterns in bright trendy colours reminiscent of the 60 & 70’s combined with neutral coloured furniture blending natural beauty and contemporary design.

The resort has two restaurants, the main restaurant Cinnamone offers Mauritian and international flavours whilst Pomelo is the a la carte restaurant, Secrets Corner Restaurant is an elegant adult-exclusive dining room which is ideal for romantic dining.  Two bars entice you with cocktails, and the table of flavoured rums next to the bars entrance proved this, the main bar is Indigo which overlooks the pool whilst the Coco Bar overlooks the sea.

We were lucky enough to try out the Ylang Spa at the resort which offers a choice of treatments and massages in a serene and relaxing atmosphere, you can let yourself be pampered in the hammam or sauna before your massage and then continue to the relax room where the cosy atmosphere continues your relaxation.

I was awake early the next morning which was great as I was able to watch the sunrise from my east facing room.

There are a number of sports and activities at the hotel, for the more energetic there is a fully equipped gym and two tennis courts or maybe indulge in windsurfing, kayaks and pedal boats or even a water aerobics class!  The Mini-club is fully equipped for the mini travellers age 3 to 11 years with a fantastic program of activities based on their ages, for them to enjoy, whilst the parents enjoy some peace and serenity time on the beach.

Next to the swimming pool is a relaxing waterfall which is one of the popular locations for the weddings that the resort has regularly, this is where we had our cocktail making class and came up with some amazing creations, all delicious before heading down to Coco Bar where a table had been set up and where we had a delicious dinner of freshly grilled king prawns whilst being entertained by the local Sega dancers who were there for the hotels weekly Mauritian evening.

The hotel has 117 sea facing rooms, with nothing between you and the sandy white beach and ocean beyond but the odd coconut tree open straight on to the beach.

The Superior rooms are simply furnished in bright and warm colours, with an open bathroom with shower cubicle, with a nice touch of a blackboard in the room for personal messages.

If you can upgrade to the Deluxe room which is more spacious and elegant with a four poster bed in the centre of the room or the Junior Suite which is perfectly located and is decorated in a modern design with harmonious colours, the bathroom has its own private Jacuzzi with a seaview!

It’s a great hotel for a destination wedding or honeymoon as it is great for couples, families and groups and is a great opportunity to visit a wonderful island at a good price and since it is exclusive to Kuoni then we’re the right people to book with, after all we have been there!

I travelled to Mauritius with Air Mauritius and Reve Tourism in April 2015
