Sandals Emerald Bay, Bahamas – a stunning jewel in the Caribbean Sea

Bahamas-Fam-tripThe dazzling Sandals Emerald Bay is one of Sandals newest resorts, this exclusive and chic resort is located on Exuma, an out island of the Bahamas, reached by a short internal flight from Nassau, considered to be the French Riviera of the Caribbean, with calm turquoise bays and beautiful beaches; you will certainly have a picturesque journey and it will feel as though you are a million miles from anywhere… paradise! Exuma airport is slightly different to what we are used to and let’s just say it’s quite funny collecting your luggage from the truck from the flight!

Welcome to Sandals Emerald Bay

Complimentary transfers to and from the resort are arranged by Sandals, so climb aboard and enjoy a brief 10-minute ride to Sandals Emerald Bay. Once you arrive at the resort, you’ll receive a warm welcome like all Sandals guests and check in is done at the Club Lounge with a glass of champagne, a cold towel and a warm smile. We arrived at night but even then you can see what a special place this is!

Sandals-Emerald-Bay-RoomAll of the elegant 245 rooms and suites at Emerald Bay are either Club Level or Butler service, my room was a walk-out room in Beach House 7 at the far end of the resort. The bathroom with its his and her sinks, shower cubicle and large bath was bigger than my kitchen at home whilst the spacious living area had a comfortable corner seating area, dining table and huge king-sized bed; white colonial shutters allowed privacy and to keep the early sunrise at bay at the wall of windows which over-looked the perfectly manicured gardens and sea; there was a coffee machine which I used every morning and a fully stocked bar including champagne, red and white wine and full-sized spirits, rum of which is now my personal favourite. After a quick change we headed to the Drunken Duck Pub for a late dinner and a few drinks but I couldn’t wait to see what the resort looked like the next morning.

Café de Paris was definitely one of my favourite places, a little bit of Paris in the Caribbean, a great place to grab a coffee early in the morning as you watch the stunning sunrise; it also has a great selection of cakes, tarts or cookies throughout the day and as the sun goes down you can indulge in a delicious ice-cream or a warm crepe with the topping of your choice, they even offer a couple of gluten-free delicacies so I was happy!

Spread over 500 tropical acres the resort is very spacious, its mile long pristine white sand beach and crystal clear bay never seem to be packed and there are three impressive swimming pools including a half-acre, zero-entry pool with a stunning and dramatic fire pit in the middle and a quiet pool if you just want to relax in each other’s company as well as seven impressive and exceptional restaurants.

After a delicious breakfast in the main restaurant Bahama Bay, we headed off to explore the resort.

water-sports-emerald-bay-sandalsDown on the beach is the water sports centre and with such a wonderful setting it’s good to know that you have so many water-sports included such as hobie cats, windsurfing, sailing and waterskiing and with unlimited complimentary lessons available for all the water sports activities maybe it’s the perfect opportunity to try something new like Stand Up Paddle Boards.sandals-scuba-diving
If you are a qualified scuba diver then head down to the dive centre where you can enjoy up to two dives daily, all included in your holiday, even if you’ve never dived before Sandals offer an introductory resort programme that will have you experiencing a whole new underwater world in no time!

sandals-emerald-bay-golfPlay golf on the par 72 Championship course designed by golf legend Greg Norman, voted one of the best in the Caribbean and renowned for its challenging fairways, it truly is a golfer’s paradise with six of the holes hugging the scenic coastline.
Indulge at the Sandals Emerald Bay Red Lane Spa with its 17 treatment rooms offering a fantastic array of treatments and massages as well as a state of the art fitness centre, beauty salon, yoga/pilates, relaxing pool and several relaxation areas in the secluded garden.

The main pool overlooking the sea is the main hub during the day with plenty of sunbeds as well private cabanas just perfect for two where you can lounge all day and be pampered by the Cabana butlers, swim up to swim-up bar where you can enjoy delicious Mojitos or Daiquiris, watch the sun go down at the sunset tower and the atmosphere changes around the pool with roaring firepits adding to the romance. Head to the piano bar to continue the entertainment, we even joined in with a little sing-along, well any excuse really!!

Dining at Sandals Emerald Bay is unrivalled in the Caribbean, so whether you crave an evening of sophisticated gastronomy, the barefoot elegance of beachfront dining, a delicious afternoon tea or a lively night in the English pub, you can be sure that there is a menu and the ambience to suit every mood! Discover a little slice of heaven at Dinos Pizzeria… enjoy a warm slice of freshly made pizza cooked in the brick pizza oven whilst La Parisienne with its chic decor and magnificent chandeliers offers white-glove service and is the perfect restaurant to indulge in French cuisine fine dining, whilst Il Cielo is the fine Italian restaurant with amazing views over the pool and bay, the a la carte breakfast is delicious, I choose the steak and eggs made even better with a lovely glass of bucks fizz and at different times of the year they also offer outdoor dining on the terrace overlooking the garden.
