There was nothing better than arriving by speedboat at the Preskil Beach in Mauritius and greeted by Christophe the Resort Manager and given cold refreshing towels.
Preskil Beach is on the South-East coast of Mauritius, just 15 minutes from the airport. The resort is the only hotel in Mauritius to be on a private peninsula, which gives you a feeling of your own private island, with a large beach which gently slopes into the breathtaking turquoise coloured lagoon making it good for families.
Before we checked in and just in case we hadn’t eaten for a couple of hours we were taken to the Tapas Grill and Beach Bar for lunch, if you like your food you will love this hotel, after an octopus salad starter which would have done me for a main course, we also had to make room for the main course and dessert!
The restaurant has amazing views over the beach and also to Lion Mountain, which apparently in the right light looks like a sleeping lion!!!
We were then shown to our rooms. The resort has a refined and understated luxury, with the rooms and suites designed in typical colonial/creole style. The Lagoon rooms are in blocks situated in the gardens over two floors and although most of them face the sea you may have a palm tree or two in the way, they are spacious and have a balcony or terrace, there are also a number of Honeymoon Lagoon rooms with a four-poster bed for added “romance” There are 14 cottages all with prime locations, just a few steps from the ocean and with amazing unrestricted views. .
The cottages consist of two prestige cottage rooms on the ground floor with direct access out to the beach, some of which are even interconnecting which is great for families, these are more spacious and have a large bathroom with bath as well as a shower whilst the upper floor is reserved for the deluxe penthouses, perfect for honeymooners or couples looking for a little more luxury and with a bath with a view! If you can upgrade to one of these they are certainly worth it, but you’ll have to get in quick as there are only a limited number.
We then had a little time off to explore the resort at leisure or head into the nearby village of Mahebourg with its covered market, don’t expect a big tourist town, it really is a local village! We were even treated to a massage in the Ylang Spa which has a number of treatment rooms including some specifically for couples where they can follow a relaxing massage with a bath with tropical flower petals.
The hotel is very popular with weddings, but they still only offer one wedding per day with a dedicated team looking after all your desires and dreams whilst you are there; couples can choose to get married on the beach, in the gazebo or even on one of the catamaran yachts
The resort has three restaurants offering something for everyone, Spices is the main restaurant which offers international themed buffets for dinner and a fantastic buffet for breakfast with eggs and omelettes cooked to order. Tapas is set on the beach and where we had lunch but in the evening it becomes a la carte and offers freshly grilled seafood in a romantic candlelit setting and Charka which is the best steak house on the island, whilst the Indigo Bar is ready to dish you up any drinks you require from a refreshing Gin & Tonic to an exotic cocktail
That evening was the resorts Managers Cocktail Party with drinks and canapés served on the beach and so we joined them for a couple of drinks before our delicious steak dinner from Charka was served to us in the gazebo, followed by a few drinks in the bar and dancing to the hotel band. Under the All-Inclusive you will be able to eat unlimited in the a la carte restaurants.
The hotel has its own catamaran which we were lucky to have to ourselves for the morning for a cruise over to Ile Aux Cerfs with time for snorkelling and a delicious BBQ lunch cooked on board before being dropped off at the island for an hour, this beautiful paradise island has stunning beaches, restaurants, shops and even a golf course and where you can walk between the two islands through a narrow channel.
Back at Preskil Beach we had some time to enjoy some of the hotel’s complimentary water sports and a quick swim in one of the two swimming pools, although if you prefer land based activities then maybe join in with a tennis match, beach-volley tournament, zumba class or even work out in the hotels fully equipped gym. Whilst if you are a scuba diver then the spectacular underwater scenery in the unique marine park island just a short distance away is amazing.
All changed and packed up and after a few goodbye drinks and a light buffet, we waved a sad goodbye as we left the hotel to make the short journey back to the Airport for our flight back to London Heathrow with Air Mauritius.
The refined and understated luxury of Preskil Beach Resort projects itself as being elegant without being intrusive, its laid back and easy going which gives the resort a unique status of holiday, leisure and relaxation. You will certainly want to come back again …. I know I do!
